SUMMARY OF THE OFFICIAL REQUIREMENTS
Not every health policy is sufficient for the application.
According to the UGE’s digital nomad FAQs, the following points should be checked in particular.
✓
Public or private cover
This may be public cover through the Spanish Social Security system, or equivalent private health insurance from a company authorised to operate in Spain.
✓
Authorised insurer
Whether the company issuing a private policy is authorised to carry on insurance business in Spain should be checked in the DGSFP registers.
×
Travel insurance is not enough
The official UGE information states that travel insurance and policies that only reimburse medical expenses after the event are not accepted.
×
Co-payments and waiting periods
Policies that include additional payments/co-payments or impose waiting periods for certain treatments may not meet the application requirement.

-

-
Validity: Do the start date, end date and renewal terms cover the period of the file?
-
Family cover: Are the separate insured-person details for your spouse and children correct?
-
Documents: Can the policy and certificate be submitted in a language suitable for the application?
